When existing pipe infrastructure including gas and water mains are either not required or have reached their end-of-life cycle, it is generally cheaper to decommission than replace or excavate out. Some of these pipes run below critical assets like roads or railways or existing structures. Abandonment without proper decommissioning, can lead to pipe collapse causing damage instability in the overlying soils, potentially damaging the asset or structure above.
When existing utilities are no longer required and are abandoned, there are two main options.
Our solution: We completely fill the utility with our R-Geo cellular concrete. With 0.3% creep, the R-Geo will not shrink, ensuring the pipe will remain full ensuring no air gaps within pipe remain. Once cured, cellular concrete will harden to compressive strengths greater than soil, ensuring any assets or structures over the pipe are no longer at risk of failure due to ground subsidence caused by pipe decay.
